As I toil away on Part 4 of the Strategic Planner series on Goal Setting for Creatives, I keep thinking about how much it’s the small, seemingly insignificant things we do on a daily basis that are the most powerful in moving us forward toward our goals.
Or away, as the case may be.
So, because I love a good experiment, I thought I’d try using Twitter and the twitter hashtag feature to post a tweet about my daily action (the intention) and my result (did I do it or not?).
Then I thought: This will be much more fun if others are doing it, too.
The goal of this experiment is to simply:
- increase accountability for the small, daily actions that support our larger goals
- gain support by connecting with others who want to do this
To participate (or just watch, that’s OK, too):
- Sign up for a free Twitter account (if you don’t already have one)
- Post your daily action in Twitter, followed by #dailyaction
Example: 5 sun salutes #dailyactions
Example: No refined sugar #dailyactions
This hashtag enables us to do a search for others who are doing this experiment. - Talk amongst yourselves and cheer each other on.
You can also go to TweetChat.com, type in dailyactions, and see a groovy compiled list of all the tweets. Cool, eh?
The link to our chat room on TweetChat is: http://tweetchat.com/room/dailyactions
From time to time, I’ll do a post on how the experiment is going, and will link to your posts about this subject.
Game? What’s your daily action today?
p.s. My twitter id is: @LisaSonoraBeam
If you do this, send me a tweet and let me know, (include #dailyactions in the tweet).
Feel free to share this with others you think might want to play along.
Thanks!

Hey Lisa,
This is great. I’m going to “intend” to do the full 3 pages of Morning Pages each day AND my Nitely Gratitudes (which I constantly forget).
great idea–very simple. Your “note to self–one at a time” especially resonates. Thanks

@Ramona Thanks for the reminder about Nitely Gratitudes. I forget to do it, too (formally) but maybe that’s because gratitude is becoming more of a habit. Finally.
I intend to add more pictures to my strategic goal planner.
Thanks for the tweet, Lisa. I love your blog, have used your goal setting for creatives this year, and am enjoying being part of your daily actions online experiment. Like you, I have been trying to establish a new yoga habit and so have committed to 5 sun salutations a day. So far it is working. Best wishes for now and enjoy Oaxaca!
I got the idea for these tiny goals from Martha Beck’s excellent book: The 4 Day Win. I don’t have my copy with me in Mexico, otherwise I’d do a review of it now. Also, the writer and artist SARK, talks about micro-movements in many of her books.
I’m finding the 5 sun salutes a day is really doing something….motivating me? Energizing? Today (if I can get over the stomach flu enough to bend forward) will be 8 days in a row of the 5 sun salutes.
Glad you’re participating! Being accountable is so helpful for me.
