In just a couple of weeks I take off for a long retreat in France, Spain, Morocco, (and New York – for a bite of the big apple on the way to and from Europe and also to visit my Grandma upstate).
Why is it that when you are leaving for trip, the to-do list gets so condensed? Oh, never mind why. I’m just excited…and busy with all sort of preparations for the rest of the year, and next years’ workshops.
This photo was taken last summer by my dear friend Kelly, on the ferry from my house in Marin to San Francisco. I came across it while looking for photos to illustrate the my retreat in Mexico (you’re invited).
I love to create wherever I go. Have always had a strange need to document things. Who knew it would become my career? Ha ha.
Anyway, this image captures one of those ordinary moments in life that documentation makes a little more extraordinary. A time with a good friend, an adventure ahead. Beer, pen, paper and paints in hand.
This is what I do on retreat. Kind of a creative meditation, if you will.
BTW, I have also been a regular participant in sitting meditation retreats. Once I did one for 10 days. But that’s another story. Right now, retreats with art supplies, convivial conversation and cocktails are my thing.
Art supplies make any time Happy Hour.
Hmmn. That sounds like a slogan for something.
Your turn: Do you have a photo of yourself journaling, taking photos or documenting an “ordinary” moment? You can post a photo in the comments. Would love to hear from you.
